Conference and public day 2010

The Lepidopterists' Society of Africa (LepSoc) has decided to have a big public butterfly awareness day, that will form part of the society's annual conference.  This will be hosted at the Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens over the weekend of 24-26 September 2010.  There will also be:

  • Photographic Competition
  • Butterfly displays
  • Workshops (including practical workshops on butterfly photography)
  • Guided walks

Metamorphosis

The society’s journal Metamorphosis publishes a variety of articles related to Afrotropical Lepidoptera, ranging from accounts of interesting field trips to contributions of a more scientific nature. There are four issues that appear quarterly.

SABCA

SABCA (South African Butterfly Conservation Assessment) is a joint project between Lepsoc, ADU (Animal Demography Unit at University of Cape Town) and SANBI (South African National Biodiversity Institute).  The main aim of the project is to establish a current Atlas of South African butterflies and to determine the Conservation Status of each species in line with SANBI’s overall goal of achieving this for all animals and plants in South Africa.

Public Awareness
