A lot of these are slightly out of focus, the weather really wasn't good this morning, and there were not a lot out last night.

A lot of these are SA species as well, so should be easy to ID. Might be a good idea to post a number under each pic so we can easily refer to them - otherwise we have to do a full 'quote' for each of your postings. This will make for a very unwieldy post as well as confounding some of the less tech savvy users!

Also, it might be a good idea to put on ice your scruples about killing, and take at least one example of each species you see. You could simply put them in bank bags and freeze them, and arrange to get them to Steve Collins at ABRI in Nairobi (scollins@iconnect.co.ke). I'm a photographer myself and have more than once experienced the ire of moth taxonomists when I posted a shot of something new to science... but no specimen!

Cheers

Thanks Steve, sorted now (dunno why I did not think of that ).
I don't specifically have qualms about mounting specimens, it's rather more of a time and space issue. Unfortunately, being in a National Park, I am unable to collect any specimens, without going through an excruciatingly ridiculous permitting procedure. I don't quite see the logic in it though, as a lot of these moths and other insects drown in all the water or get squashed in all the machinery in the drilling operation. There is just no arguing with Bureaucratic African logic though.
