Butterfly ID's for WSBG 1 Month, 4 Weeks ago Karma: 3
Please can someone help ID or other wise confirm ID's of
these butterflies seen below. Again, I ask for further info such as sex, season, sub-species etc etc if any one has the knowledge to share.

1) Yellow Pansy (J. hierta cebrene) Male

2) Common Hottentot Skipper (G. niso niso) I don't recall these being the same individual, but all look like Male C.H. Skippers to me.

3) Garden Inspector/Commodore (P. archesia pelasgis) Appears to be a Male f. pelasgis, but I read its brooded Sept-March...I saw this in June. I see f. archesia is mentioned as April-August. Is there anything unusual here, or is Global warming affecting the butterflies too?!

4) Small Orange Acraea (H. eponina) Pale Form Female?!

5) Twin Dotted Border (M. rueppellii haemus)

6) ??? Common Sandman (S. diomus ferax)??? They all look the same

The P.archesia is actually f.archesia. F.pelasgis is the summer form and is normally active from September till March. But there is often quite an overlap between the forms and it is not impossible, although quite unlikely to find a winter form (f.archesia) in the middle of summer and vice versa.

I can't see the photo of the sandman?

Thanks for the help BushSnake, That was slightly confusing..What confuses me the most. Is that I found both the forms on the same day in a gully stream near Luneberg last month (KZN)....Am I understanding correctly that at this time, f. archesia is the one flying around and is found in both Colourations as shown in Butterflies of SA?! Or did I find a f. pelasgis flying with a f. archesia?! I'll post pictures if nesseccary to help clarify what it is I am trying to explain if you require.

I re-posted the Sandman image, and it is showing clearly on my PC?

We often see both forms of Precis archesia together here in KZN - usually at the end of winter when the nominates are worn and pelasgis fresh, or end of summer, vice versa. Same goes for winter and summer forms of P.octavia too.
