How to post identification requests... 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
The main goal of this forum is to allow you all (both expert and beginners) to post photos of butterflies or moths that you cannot identify. To help the experts get to the most accurate answer, please make sure to post the following details (you can use this as a template if you want to):

Date seen:
Province:
Nearest town:
Locality:
Interesting observation notes, etc:

If possible, post photos of both the upperside and the underside of the butterfly. This will make identification a lot easier!

When referring to butterflies, you can either use the common names (English or Afrikaans ), but ideally you should use the scientific name to avoid any confusion. Remember, when writing scientific names, the genus name is spelled with a capital letter, and the species name not. These should ideally also be in italics, eg. Aloeides dentatis dentatis.

NB: This forum is not suppose to replace the SABCA virtual museum, so please keep on sending all your records to SABCA, so that the data can be collected in a database. This forum is mainly to help you all identify the butterflies and moths you come accross more quickly.

We are all looking forward to some interesting contributions!
