Lepsoc KZN finds new locality for Bicolored Skipper -
D'you remember my words in a recent Metamorphosis - Bicoloured Skipper Abantis bicolor will be found one day in the Hwayi/Lower Illovo area? One of the first fruits of our discovery of the potential of a combination of Google Earth, a 3G card in a laptop and a Garmin GPS... and a Subaru Forester.
So far we have one couple, Dave and Jo Bishop, two single ladies - Jenny Norman and Sandi du Preez - and myself confirmed for this survey.
No Maphamulo camp this time. We have a 2-bed flatlet, the Green House with two rooms - one with two beds, one three, and two 'Tweedies' that have one bed but could fit in a camp bed.
Dave and Jo can have the flatlet, Jenny and Sandi the two bed room in the Greenhouse, and I can sleep in one of the Tweedies. So we have one Tweedie (and both of these could hold a camp bed as well) and a three bed room available still.
So unless different sexes don't mind sharing the same room, it looks like we still have room for 3 males or 3 females in the other Greenhouse room, a male with me in the one Tweedie, and two males/two females in the other Tweedie.
Regarding costs, the charges are R55pppn for the accommodation, which we have to pay in advance so please send the money to my wife's bank account:
Mrs J E Woodhall Standard Bank Cheque a/c no 020053975 Branch code 016342
Please scan and e-mail me the deposit slips.
We also have to pay our guide R200 per day, cash, and provide food for her. We can pay cash on the day.
So, total cost for the weekend is R220 each plus (if we fill all accommodation) R800/11 each. Obviously the fewer who come, the more we will have to pay.
We will only have one guide, so we can leave our vehicles but have to stay in one party. Also, this time we can't go into Management Areas, and will have to stay on the main roads or nearby. But it should still be a very worthwhile weekend.
Please let me know ASAP who wants to come - places are strictly first-come-first-served.
