Butterfly ID's Please 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Hi All,

My Name is Justin...and I have recently taken an Interest in Butterflies.
I am an avid birder, and battle with all the LBJ's but Butterflies seem to be even harder to ID.

I would appreciate it if members on this forum can help with the ID's of the Butterflies I have photographed in the last Month or so.
If any of the ID's are incorrect please let me know.
If you also have further info such as sex, morph, season, subspecies etc etc....
I would be very gratefull, as these finer details are what I am interested in most!

So here goes.

1) Painted Lady (V. cardui) Waterberg

2) Grass Jewel Blue (C. trochylus) Waterberg

3) Topaz-spotted Blue (A. jesous jesous) Waterberg

4) Guineafowl (H. daedalus) Marble Hall

5) Banded Gold Tip (C. eris eris) Waterberg

6) Zebra White (P. eriphia eriphia) Waterberg

7) Twin Dotted Border (M. rueppellii haemus) Walter Sisulu Botanical Gardens

8) African Monarch (D. chrysippus) Beaulieu Bird Sanctuary

9) Yellow Pansy (J. hierta cebrene) Waterberg

10) Blue Pansy (J. oenone oenone)

Balule GR

Waterberg

11) Spotted Joker (B. ilithyia) Waterberg

Some superb shots in there Justin - that Guineafowl is particularly good. I know how hard they are to nail down!

All your ID's are fine - keep the posts coming. Might I suggest you go to sabca.adu.org.za/public.php and submit them to SABCA so we can capture the data?

Cheers

Thanks Steve....Im new to this game, finding the photograsphy a little hard especially with my set up. Appreciate the comment! I have how ever read up on a few tips, such as baiting, and providing, salt, fruit, nectar and Mud Puddles. So hopefully I'll be able to not only improve the photography, but pick up some new species!

I will have a look into trying to send my contributions through, I am how ever in varsity, and as a student...still cant manage time...
