Hi Justin
Spialia spio (Mountain Sandman).
You can't use Steve's book for this one unfortunately, as the images of S. spio and S. mafa are both of S. spio!

Hi Raimund - well done; nice photos, indicating the variability of this population of Pseudonymphas (could be both swanepoeli and varii of course)!
Another noteworthy butterfly that we found on the mountain was Chrysoritis lycegenes (Mooi River Opal).
We must arrange another visit to look for Metisella syrinx - there's loads of Mountain Bamboo on the southern slopes of the Platberg.

Colin Beale (UK), who's helping me with the spatial modelling for my postdoc, does some other work in east Africa. He sent me this link to his blog on the current butterfly migration (& eruption) taking place there around Arusha. They've been plotting observations on a map since 1 Feb.

Fascinating, have a look!!!
